Welcome to the Margo Mission!

Inspiration behind the book

“I Have Something Extra” came to be an idea in our hearts as a family after our sweet Margo was born on June 25, 2023. We couldn’t find a short, simple book to read to our 3 older kids that explained Down syndrome to them on their level. One day out on our porch, we all began to describe what we loved about Margo. The next thing we knew, we were coming up with fun rhymes, laughing together as a family, and talking about how much we loved our new little baby. We decided to write a book celebrating our sweet girl and what makes her, along with other kiddos with Down syndrome, unique and special.

We have learned through personal experience, hearing “the diagnosis” for the first time can be scary and full of so many unknowns.

We wanted families to be able to read this and know that even though the future is unknown, it’s not all scary, and there is so much joy they will experience. There is a saying we’ve learned on this journey thus far, and it is the Lucky Few. We are the Lucky Few who get the privilege to raise a child rocking an extra chromosome. It’s our prayer as a family to everyone who reads this book that they will feel encouraged and not alone.
